2018 City of Houston AIA Affordable Housing Design Competition

Description : In an effort to create solutions for affordable housing, Council Member David Robinson partnered with AIA to host a design competition. The competition allowed local architects and their teams to submit housing designs that the City of Houston may use in the future as models for development. Although not recognized as a winner in the competition, the experience has sparked new energy and discussion among colleagues to propose larger scale solutions for housing in Third Ward.

Prompted the creation of small investment groups geared toward creating affordable housing.

Spurred the development of a pilot plan for Midtown Redevelopment Authority to build affordable housing.

Launched the creation of an affordable housing tool kit.
